1PM - Koh-I-Noor Drawing Class. We will be drawing "Yellow Narcissism" using Koh-I-Noor Gioconda Drawing kit, colored pastels, and 9" X 12" sketchbook. Class is $25 + Materials.

3PM - Beginners' Acrylic Painting. We will use Ultramarine Blue, Titanium White, Cad. Red Light, Cad. Yellow Med., Cad. Yellow Light, Alizarin Crimson, and Cerulean Blue for this delightful seascape "Cancun".  $25 + Materials

5:30PM - Kids Painting. This week we will paint "Baseball Stadium". Bring a pencil, straightedge and these colors: Ultramarine Blue, Titanium White, Cad. Yellow Med., Cad. Red Light, Alizarin Crimson, and Thalo Blue.  Ages 7+ $15 + Materials

Here's something new! "Steampunk Butterfly" using Koh-I-Noor Gioconda Drawing Kit and Strathmore Paper. You will also need one can of Grumbacher Fixative for use at home.

 

What is Steampunk? A Brief Introduction:

 

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary’s definition of Steampunk: “Science fiction dealing with

 

 

19th-century societies dominated by historical or imagined steam-powered

technology.” The term was originally coined in 1987 by Science Fiction writer J.W.

Jeter.

While that explains the physical aspects of the word, Steampunk has many meanings

depending on who you talk to. It is a multi-faceted aesthetic/art form that has been

progressively getting more popular in mainstream culture since the mid-2000’s.

Steampunk artists typically involve elements such as gears, steam engines, goggles,

brass and wood; Victorian Era design and mad science, as well as an awareness of

 

creators from the 19th Century (Nikola Tesla, H.G. Wells, etc.) into their creations.

So many people tell me they can't draw. I don't believe it. If you want to learn to make drawing like these, join me at 1PM on Monday's. Purchase the drawing set, paper, and fixative once and you will have enough for 20 drawing lessons. Register online at www.michaels.com

Paintings of the Week - Art Classes at Michael's in Katy on Monday

On Monday, Dec. 8 there are three classes available at Michael's in Katy (Westheimer & Grand Parkway). At 1PM there will be a Koh-I-Noor Drawing Class, at 3PM there will be an Adult Beginning Acrylic Painting Class, and at 5:30 there will be a Kid's Painting Class (Ages 7+).

In the drawing Class we will draw this "Steampunk Hot Air Balloon". Bring your drawing kit, sketch pad, a straight edge and compass. Class begins at 1PM. Pre-registration is required at least 24 hours in advance in store or at www.michaels.com

 

In our beginners' painting class we will paint a nice Christmas floral "Poinsettia". Colors used are Hooker's Green, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Grumbacher Red (or Cad. Red Deep), Cad. Yellow Med., and Titanium White.

New Charcoal Drawing Classes beginning on Monday

 

I am happy to announce that I am now conducting drawing classes on Mondays at 1PM at Michael's in Katy. Cost: $25 + Materials. You will need a 9" X 12" Sketchbook and a Kohinoor Gioconda Drawing kit. This week we will draw this lovely vase of flowers.

 

 

 

In the Adult Beginner Acrylic Painting class we will paint "Winter Shadows". This is a lovely snowy landscape scene.  

Palette to be used: Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium yellow medium, Thalo blue, Cadmium red light, and Titanium white.

Class begins at 3PM.

 

 

Kids Class is at 5:30PM. This week we will paint "Corona Sunset". Colors used are

Paintings of the Week

There is a change in schedule this week. We were to begin our charcoal drawing class but I do not have the correct paperwork to begin. So I will make an announcement as to when I get the paperwork and we can begin drawing together.

 

The beginners' painting class will be on Monday at 3PM. This Monday we will practice cloud painting. The painting we will make will be a bit different than the example. We will use ocean sponges to create a beautiful sunset called "Edge of Night". Colors used are Titanium White, Ultramarine Blue, Cad. Yellow Med., Cad. Red Light, Thalo Blue, Alizarin Crimson, and Cad. Yellow Light. Registration is required. You can register at the store, Michaels in Katy, or online at michaels.com

This week in the beginners painting class we will paint this "Italian Landscape". Colors used are Titanium White, Ultramarine Blue, Thalo Blue, Cad. Yellow Med., Cad. Red Light, and Alizarin Crimson. Class begins at 3PM. Registration is required at least 24 hours before class in store or at michaels.com

 

In the kids painting class this week we will paint this "Summer Landscape". We will be using ocean sponges. Colors used are Titanium White, Ultramarine Blue, Thalo Blue, Cad. Yellow Med., Cad. Red Light, Cerulean Blue, Yellow Ochre, Payne's Gray, Hooker's Green, Raw Umber and Alizarin Crimson. This is a fun painting. Expect to get your hands dirty. Kids Painting class begins at 5:30PM. Registration is required. Please register at least 24 hours in advance either in store or at Michaels.com

Painting Class is back to Mondays

 

New day and time! Painting with Suzanne is back to Mondays. Beginners' Painting begins at 3PM and Kids Painting Class begins at 5:30PM at Michaels in Katy (Westheimer @ Grand Parkway).

 

Please register either online or at the register in the front of the store at least 24 hours prior to class time. Beginners' (Adult) class is $25 + Materials, Kids' class is $15 + Materials. Material kits are available in the store. The kit includes two canvas boards, two paint brushes, four colors of paint, and a palette knife.

 

 

 

This coming Monday, Sept. 8, we will paint this lovely landscape called "Disney Park". Colors used are Ultramarine Blue, Thalo Blue, Cad. Yellow Med., Cad. Red Light, Titanium White, Alizarin Crimson. Class begins at 3PM.

 

In the Kids' Painting Class, beginning at 5:30PM, we will paint "Lagoon". This painting is a favorite with kids. Colors used are Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Cad. Yellow Med., Cad. Yellow Light, Cad. Red Light, Alizarin Crimson, Titanium White.

Paintings of the week

 

On Wed. 8-27 at 3PM, the beginners' painting class will paint this view of "Sleeping Bear". Located in Northern Michigan, this is one of my favorite summer places. One of my students thought we were going to paint a sleeping bear. She didn't know it was a place.

Colors used are Ultramarine Blue, Titanium White, Thalo Blue, Alizarin Crimson, Cad. Yellow Med., Cad. Red Light, and Hooker's Green. See you at Michael's in Katy.

 

For the kids class, Wed. at 5:30PM, we will paint "Eagle's Watchful Eye". Children ages 7-14 are welcome. Colors used are Titanium White, Ultramarine Blue, Cad. Red Light, Cad. Yellow, Med., Raw Umber, Burnt Sienna.

Time change for painting classes at Michael's in Katy

 

School begins soon so the painting classes at Michael's in Katy will be held at new times. The kids painting class will be Wednesday at 5:30PM. This week we will paint this "Nest of Eggs". Colors used are Raw Umber, Burnt Sierra, Titanium White, Cad. Yellow Med., Cad. Red Light, and Ultramarine Blue.

Our adult beginners' painting class time has also changed. Wednesday we will begin holding classes at 3PM. This week we will paint this iris. Colors used are Titanium White, Cad. Red Light, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Thalo Blue, Cad. Yellow Med. Note: This is a switch from the schedule I gave out in class. Instead of Hooker's green we will be using Thalo blue.

Kids Class begins at 4PM! Today we will paint "Pear Trio". This is an excellent lesson in color and shape. Colors used are Titanium White, Ultramarine Blue, Cad. Yellow Med., Cad. Red Light, Hooker's Green and Alizarin Crimson. You must register at the store or online at Michael.com
